Cornet (Front Bench), Principal Euphonium, Tenor Trombone, Bass (Bb or Eb), and Percussionist

If you have an interest in any of these positions, please email to uppercanadabrass@gmail.com

Application and Requirements: UCB has a schedule of 4 regular concerts, contests, and appropriate rehearsals (mainly on Saturday afternoons). Who we are (in short): Although the band is young, we enjoy digging into relevant and challenging music. Originally founded in 2011 as A Little Wind Music and winning awards at NABBA, by 2018, we grew into a small brass band and attended NABBA in the 2nd Section. We are an all-volunteer organization, currently under the direction of Rita Arendz, working out of Markham and performing locally, regionally, and abroad.

The Musicians of Upper Canada Brass would like to thank everyone who supported us for our first full season of concerts! It was fantastic.

STRANGER MUSIC! Saturday 1 April 2023 7:30 pm

This is no hoax! Yes, we have a concert on April 1st!

What a great way to explore the “strange-ness” of music, places, and circumstances.

What was the strange battle plan as depicted in Canadian Kevin Hayward’s Joshua Fit The Battle? What “strange-ness” did Dvorak experience in New York that inspired his New World Symphony? Or how did Canadian John Weinzweig’s Round Dance and its strange modernism affect the ears of CBC listeners?

We’re also taking a leaf from the 1993 Stranger Music publication presenting some of Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen’s best songs!

Plus other great works for Brass Band!

THE 3 F’s! Saturday 22 October 2022 7:30 pm

We’re proud to kick off our 2022-2023 Concert Season with The 3 F’s!

The programme has a little something for everyone – from Canadian Composers and abroad – from folks songs to film!

Themed “Fall, Fellowship, Favourites”, the repertoire includes a rousing march by the Band’s own Gerry Murphy titled Alumnus – a reference to musicians we know from previous bands and current bands. Canadian conductor-composer Godfrey Ridout’s sunny and affirmative Fall Fair is appropriate for the season. For those who love film music, what better than Canadian Howard Shore’s Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring! One of the Band’s favourites is Edward Gregson’s Variations on Laudate Dominum which was commissioned for the 1976 British Tour of the London (Ontario) Citadel Band, whose conductor was the composer’s brother, Bram Gregson. And for those who like folk tunes, the exquisite Shenandoah has been expertly crafted for brass band by Parry Sound’s Len Ballantine titled Mid All The Traffic! and more!

Join us this fall in musical fellowship and make some of our favourites yours!
